Dunster National Park Centre

Dunster National Park Centre

The Centre is located 50 metres from a public car park on the approach into Dunster village from the A39.

The many walks from Dunster allow visitors to enjoy extensive views of the National Park, the Quantocks and West Somerset coastline. Cycle trails and picnic sites are located close by at Nutcombe Bottom, ideal for family exploring. The National Park Authority provide a programme of events including guided walks suitable for all ages and abilities. Request the monthly events leaflet.

The centre exhibits an interesting display about the woollen trade in Dunster during medieval times, and how this contributed to the wealth and development of the village. Additional displays about modern day life on Exmoor and recreational opportunities are present. A short self – guided walk (leaflet available) will introduce you to the history of the village including the yarn market, the priory, the dovecote, the church and of course the castle, which dominates the village.

Events in the village include ‘Dunster by Candlelight’ (first weekend in December), Dunster Show, and Dunster Country Fair. Staff will be pleased to provide details of these and other events in the area. For more of what to see and do, and for interesting articles about the National Park , pick up a free copy of ‘The Exmoor Visitor’.

The staff will be pleased to assist with information about public transport in the area, including local bus services and the West Somerset Railway. The centre has facilities for group visits, particularly students, who are studying the National Park.
